March 8, was Ineternational Womens Day (IWD) and an official holiday in Armenia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. The tradition sees men honouring their mothers, wives, girlfriends, colleagues, etc with flowers and small gifts. In some countries IWD has the equivalent status of Mother's Day where children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers. On this day (Mar. 8) which is officially recognized in Jamaica, a newspaper chose to publish the above cartoon depicting the Jamaican Prime Minister (a married woman) in a compromising position with another man. The caricature seems to acknowledge the caring embrace which the Jamaican Government has imposed on the Cricket World Cup event, in comparison to wandering Haitians that graced the shores of Jamaica illegally.
However, some citizens disapproved of the manner in which the Prime Minister was depicted. On March 8, hosts of morning talk show "The Breakfast Club" was early with their disapproval and seemed to suggest that the drawing was in poor taste. This is the second time that some citizens have voiced disapproval of the treatment issued to the Prime Minister, by cartoonists. What is YOUR take on the matter? Voice it in the forum.

Well I am not from Jamaica, but from what I understand.....we have the same issues...gov't always will put out money to give areas of interest a facelift when it suits their purpose whether it is needed or not......and once you put yourself out there to become a part of any government organization you will always be vulnerable to the press, popparazzi, etc and there will always be pictures, drawings and so on that will put you, find you in compromising positions. It is the people's right to voice their opinions even if they dont agree with the general public. So my advice is...to those who don't like it.....suck it up...that's life...
